During the initial days of cinema, the majority of the film shoots happened in Chennai studios. So, the film unit used to travel from Hyderabad on flights. Before the film’s schedule, the producers used to book the tickets based on the person’s count.
One day, the producers booked 17 flight tickets for a film that featured Savitri and Suriyakantham. But before the flight takes off, when they counted one extra ticket was counted. After multiple counts, the makers realized that that extra head was that of Bobbili Veena, which was belonged to none other than Mahanati Savitri.
Savitri used to learn veena those days. As she had a long schedule, she brought veena along with her on the flight. So, the film producer took an extra ticket for the veena instead of allowing it in a luggage cabin.
After knowing this, Suryakantham admitted, “Oh if the producers provided such facility, I would have brought my grinding machine and Dosa pan and along with me in the flight!”.
LOL. Well, this incident is enough to say the wittiness of Suryakantham even off the screen with her wonderful timing!
