Ticket Price Hike Approved for Kannappa

The Andhra Pradesh government has officially approved a temporary hike in ticket prices for Kannappa, starring Vishnu Manchu. According to the order released on June 25, theaters across the state can increase ticket rates by up to ₹50 plus GST for higher classes in multiplexes and single screens for 10 days starting from the film’s release on June 27, 2025.

The hike was requested by veteran producer M. Mohan Babu on behalf of Twenty Four Frames Factory Pvt. Ltd. and backed by the Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce. This is part of a growing trend in Andhra Pradesh where many new releases have benefited from similar price hikes.

Earlier this month, Sekhar Kammula’s Kuberaa secured a ₹75 hike and turned it into a strong box office success. However, other movies like Robinhood failed to capitalize due to weak content and lukewarm reviews.

Mounted on a grand scale with heavy VFX and a star-studded ensemble including Mohanlal, Prabhas, Akshay Kumar, and Kajal Aggarwal, Kannappa is a mythological epic based on the legendary devotee of Lord Shiva. Yet, despite its ambitious scope, Kannappa has yet to generate the kind of pre-release buzz often associated with such big-ticket films.

While the hike could boost its opening collections, trade circles warn that the government’s leniency in allowing regular price increases might alienate price-sensitive audiences in smaller towns. Ultimately, the film’s content will determine its success. With only a few hours left for its grand release, all eyes are on Kannappa to see if the hike pays off or becomes another cautionary tale for the industry.
