The ongoing investigation into the alleged adulteration of ghee used in the preparation of the renowned Tirumala laddu has taken a significant turn. The Special Investigation Team (SIT), established under Supreme Court directives, has reportedly questioned Appanna, the personal assistant to former Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) chairman and Rajya Sabha member Y V Subba Reddy.

Appanna, who had been issued a notice by the SIT a few days prior, has been under intense interrogation over the last two days. Alongside him, six other TTD employees are currently under investigation as part of the comprehensive probe.

Sources indicate that the SIT is also preparing to issue notices to two former senior officials who were involved in key administrative decisions, as well as to another influential figure believed to have played a pivotal role in the implementation of certain processes.

To date, 15 individuals—including dairy owners and employees responsible for supplying ghee to the TTD—have been arrested in connection with this high-profile case. The SIT’s inquiry has reportedly uncovered explosive revelations, shedding light on the alleged adulteration scandal that has rocked the TTD community.

The investigation is now focusing on three former high-ranking officials who held critical administrative positions within TTD. Notices will soon be served to summon them for questioning, and lookout notices are being prepared to ensure their availability for the inquiry. The testimonies of these prominent individuals are expected to be crucial to advancing the case.

The SIT’s probe encompasses a thorough examination of every facet related to the ghee procurement process, including tender procedures and the credentials of supplier firms. Multiple raids have been conducted at supplier locations, resulting in the arrest of four additional suspects. Inspections have also been carried out at the Tirumala temple premises.

As the SIT moves closer to filing its first chargesheet, the investigation is poised to reach a critical juncture. The issuance of notices to former officials marks a potentially decisive phase in uncovering the full extent of the alleged malpractice.
