The Telugu film industry has been going through a dull phase at the box office in recent weeks. It’s been quite some time since Tollywood delivered a solid blockbuster. Even though a few big films released in August, none managed to make a mark. Adding to that, most of those weren’t direct Telugu films either. With Tribandhari Barbarik and Parada closing off the month of August, all eyes are now set on September, which promises some highly awaited releases.
Leading the pack is Mirai, the pan-India superhero action thriller starring Teja Sajja, marking his next big outing after HanuMan. Directed by Karthik Ghattamaneni, the film also features Manchu Manoj in a crucial role. With its content already striking the right chord with audiences, Mirai is carrying solid expectations ahead of its September 5 release.
Releasing on the same day is Ghaati, Anushka Shetty’s much-talked-about comeback film after Miss Shetty Mr Polishetty. Directed by Krish Jagarlamudi, this action crime thriller is jointly produced by First Frame Entertainments and UV Creations. The film stars Jagapathi Babu, Chaitanya Rao, and Vikram Prabhu in key roles.
Another big release on September 5 is The Girlfriend, a female-oriented drama headlined by Rashmika Mandanna. Directed by actor-turned-filmmaker Rahul Ravindran, the film also features Dasara fame Dheekshith Shetty in a pivotal role.
Following these, Kishkindhapuri is slated to hit screens on September 12. Starring Bellamkonda Sai Sreenivas in the lead, this horror thriller unfolds against the backdrop of a mysterious radio station. Directed by Kaushik Pegallapati, the film’s glimpses and teaser have already created good buzz.
But the biggest buzz of September undoubtedly belongs to OG, the most awaited gangster drama starring Power Star Pawan Kalyan. Directed by Sujeeth and produced by DVV Entertainments on a massive scale, the film will release on September 25. With Priyanka Arul Mohan, Emraan Hashmi, and Shriya Reddy playing crucial roles, OG has sky-high expectations, and fans are eagerly waiting for Pawan’s larger-than-life presence on the big screen.
Interestingly, Akhanda 2, starring Nandamuri Balakrishna and directed by Boyapati Srinu, has also locked the same date – September 25. Being the sequel to the blockbuster Akhanda, the film has immense hype, though reports suggest it might get postponed. However, the makers are yet to issue an official update.
With so many high-profile releases lined up back-to-back, September is set to bring back the much-needed energy at the Tollywood box office. It remains to be seen which of these films will live up to the hype, capture audience attention, and emerge as the next big hit.
