The use and distribution of drugs in any form is a punishable offense. However, drug addiction among the youth is on the rise, and despite strict measures from the government, the issue continues to persist. The situation becomes even more concerning when celebrities are found involved, as it sends the wrong message to society.
Addressing this concern, Tollywood is now planning to take strong action against artists and technicians involved in drug consumption. Speaking at the International Day against Drug Abuse event held in Hyderabad, Dil Raju, Chairman of the Telangana Film Development Corporation (TFDC), highlighted the issue.
He noted that the Malayalam film industry has already implemented a similar ban and shared his intentions to do the same in Tollywood. “Artists who use drugs will face a ban. I will discuss this with the industry so that we can send a strong message against drug usage,” Dil Raju stated.
The event also witnessed the presence of stars like Ram Charan and Vijay Deverakonda, alongside Telangana CM Revanth Reddy. In the past, several Tollywood personalities were interrogated during anti-drug drives but most were eventually given a clean chit.
