Released quietly amid modest expectations, the Tamil film Tourist Family has turned into a surprise blockbuster, grossing over ₹70 crore at the box office. Featuring Sasikumar and Simran in lead roles, the heartwarming family drama is helmed by debutant director Abishan Jeevinth, whose storytelling has struck a chord with audiences and critics alike.

Following its sensational run in Tamil Nadu, Tourist Family has now earned praise from none other than visionary filmmaker S.S. Rajamouli. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the RRR and SSMB29 director shared his admiration for the film:

“Saw a wonderful, wonderful film Tourist Family. Heartwarming and packed with rib-tickling humor. And kept me intrigued from beginning till end.”

Rajamouli didn’t stop there—he lauded the film’s debutant director:

“Great writing and direction by Abishan Jeevinth. Thank you for the best cinematic experience in recent years.”

He also urged audiences not to miss this gem in theaters.

Released worldwide on May 1st alongside Suriya’s much-hyped Retro, Tourist Family narrates the story of a quirky Sri Lankan Tamil family that relocates to Rameswaram, India. With its blend of humor, emotion, and cultural nuances, the film has managed to surpass Retro in Tamil Nadu, collecting an impressive ₹50.80 crore in the state alone.

With strong word-of-mouth and a growing fanbase, Tourist Family is proving that good storytelling, when done right, always finds its audience—no matter the scale of the release.
