Google is enhancing its Gemini AI assistant with a powerful new feature called Scheduled Actions, designed to boost productivity by automating routine tasks and delivering personalized updates — no need to repeat prompts.
First announced at Google I/O and now gradually rolling out, Scheduled Actions allow users to set specific tasks to run at designated times or on a recurring schedule. For example, you can now receive a motivational quote every morning at 7 AM, get a refreshed grocery list every Friday evening, or have the day’s top news headlines delivered at lunchtime — all automatically handled by Gemini.
This feature brings Gemini on par with similar functionality introduced by OpenAI for ChatGPT, which allows automated prompt scheduling. However, Gemini has a major advantage: it’s deeply integrated with Google’s ecosystem. This means Gemini can pull from Gmail, Calendar, Docs, and other services to provide a seamless and personalized experience — whether it’s nudging you to reply to an important email or summarizing travel details from your inbox.
Google says users will also have the flexibility to edit, reschedule, or delete any previously set tasks. Gemini can proactively deliver updates by scanning relevant data across your Google account — such as notifying you about a package delivery or providing hyper-local weather forecasts.
Currently, Scheduled Actions is only available to users subscribed to Gemini’s AI Pro or Ultra plans, or those with eligible Google Workspace business or education accounts. While ChatGPT limits users to ten scheduled tasks, Google has yet to disclose any such limitations for Gemini or how it will manage tasks that become obsolete or outdated.
Meanwhile, Google is also rolling out additional upgrades to Gemini. An enhanced preview of Gemini 2.5 Pro — featuring improved coding and reasoning abilities — is on the horizon. Plus, accessing Gemini Live is becoming faster and more intuitive: users can now swipe from the right edge of the screen for quick access, replacing the previous tap-to-open method.
