The upcoming by-election for the Palair Assembly constituency following the death of Congress MLA Ram Reddy Venkat Reddy has been taken prestigiously by all the parties. While the polling is scheduled for May 16, the election bugle has been sounded already with the announcement of the candidates in the fray. However, with TRS fielding its MLC turned state’s minister of R&B Thummala Nageshwar Rao in the contest, opposition parties are alleging that TRS has already lost a moral battle in the by-polls.
Opposition leaders are criticising KCR’s strategy to reign over Palair with a minister candidate even though the party suffered had a shameful defeat in the 2014 elections. In 2014, TRS got only 4041 votes where had Ram Reddy Venkat Reddy won the polls with 69,707 votes, with TDP and CPM gaining 47,844 and 44,245 votes respectively. On the other hand, Tummala too was rejected by his own constituency voters in the 2014 polls.
KCR has given the by-election campaign responsibilities to his son and the party’s lucky mascot KTR, who is hell-bent on winning Palair to prove his mettle as the next big leader in TRS after his father.
