U.S. President Donald Trump issued a sharp rebuke to both Israel and Iran on Tuesday, accusing them of endangering a newly brokered ceasefire and urging restraint amid escalating tensions.
“These guys gotta calm down. It’s ridiculous,” Trump told reporters before departing for the NATO summit in The Hague. “I didn’t like a lot of what I saw yesterday. Israel acted immediately after the deal was made, and the retaliation was overwhelming. I’m not happy with either side.”
Trump criticized both nations for violating the ceasefire that had been announced late Monday. “As soon as we made the deal, Israel came out and dropped a load of bombs the likes of which I’ve never seen before,” he said. “When I say you have 12 hours, you don’t go out in the first hour and drop everything you have. I’m not happy with them. I’m not happy with Iran either.”
Expressing frustration at the prolonged hostilities, Trump remarked, “We basically have two countries that have been fighting so long and so hard that they don’t know what the f*** they’re doing. Do you understand that?”
Earlier, in a post on Truth Social, Trump warned Israel against launching further attacks on Iran:
“Israel, do not drop those bombs. If you do, it is a major violation. Bring your pilots home, now!”
On Monday night, Iran reportedly launched six missiles targeting U.S. military bases in Iraq and Qatar in a move described by Tehran as a response to prior aggression. Codenamed Operation Annunciation of Victory, the strikes caused minimal damage as U.S. Patriot missile defense systems intercepted the projectiles.
Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared on Tuesday that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) had achieved “all of the objectives of Operation Rising Lion — and much more.” He confirmed Israel’s acceptance of Trump’s ceasefire proposal.
“Israel has removed from over it a double existential threat – on both the nuclear issue and regarding ballistic missiles,” Netanyahu’s office stated. “The IDF achieved complete air superiority over Tehran, struck hard at Iran’s military leadership, and destroyed dozens of key regime targets.”
The statement further added that Israeli forces had “eliminated hundreds of Basij militants and a senior nuclear scientist,” while expressing gratitude to President Trump and the U.S. for their “defensive support and for participating in neutralizing the Iranian nuclear threat.”
In response, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei defended the missile strikes as an act of self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter.
“Iran’s military action against the American base at Al-Udeid was in response to unprovoked aggression by the United States on June 22, 2025,” Baghaei posted on X. “This was a legitimate act of self-defense and does not reflect on our warm and deeply rooted ties with our neighbor Qatar.”
As diplomatic efforts continue, the international community watches closely, hoping the fragile truce will hold in a region once again on the brink of wider conflict.
