Trump Thanks Israel for Iran Strikes

Washington, June 22 (IANS): Following the US airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear sites, US President Donald Trump expressed his appreciation for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the Israeli military, saying they had “worked as a team like no other.”

Addressing a media briefing shortly after the strikes on Saturday (US time), Trump lauded Netanyahu, stating, “I want to thank and congratulate Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu. We have gone a long way to erasing this horrible threat to Israel. The Israeli military has done a wonderful job.”

Trump confirmed that American forces had struck three major Iranian nuclear facilities — Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan — and warned Iran that further action would follow if it failed to stand down.

“This cannot continue. Either there will be peace or tragedy for Iran, far greater than what we have seen in the past eight days. Remember, there are many targets left. Tonight was the most difficult and most lethal operation — but if peace doesn’t come soon, we will pursue other targets with speed and precision,” he added.

Trump stated that the strikes were meant to cripple Iran’s nuclear ambitions and to neutralize its “nuclear enrichment capacity,” warning that America would not tolerate threats posed by the “world’s top state sponsor of terror.”

Echoing this, Netanyahu also took to X, commending Trump and the US, saying, “President Trump and I often say: ‘Peace through strength.’ First comes strength, then peace. Tonight, America acted decisively.”

Despite previous diplomatic attempts to revive the 2015 nuclear accord — from which the US withdrew in 2018 — Trump has now committed full support to Israel’s campaign against Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, which began with a surprise strike on June 13.

The conflict has further destabilized an already tense region, which has witnessed ongoing hostilities since Israel’s war in Gaza erupted in October 2023.

Iranian media reported damage to the Fordow nuclear facility in what it termed “enemy strikes,” though the full impact of the bombings remains unclear.

Earlier, on Truth Social, Trump celebrated the strikes as a “historic moment for the United States, Israel, and the world,” asserting that “Iran must end this war.” In a separate post, he praised America’s military, writing, “There is not another military like ours. Thank you for your attention.”
