In a tragic incident, two Telugu students lost their lives in a road accident in Essex, United Kingdom, early Monday morning.
One of the victims has been identified as Rishiteja Rapolu (21), a resident of Boduppal in Hyderabad, who had been pursuing higher studies in the UK.
According to Essex Police, the crash occurred on the A130 Dual Carriageway near the Rayleigh Spur roundabout. Local media, including the BBC, reported that a group of nine students — all roommates living in the Ilford–Barking area — were travelling to Southend-on-Sea when the mishap took place.
Two students sustained critical injuries and were airlifted to the Royal London Hospital, but despite medical efforts, they succumbed.
The Essex Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that the dual carriageway was closed for several miles between the Sadlers Farm roundabout (A13) at South Benfleet and the Rettendon Turnpike (A1245) at Battlesbridge to clear the wreckage.
Police have arrested the drivers of the two vehicles involved, aged 23 and 24, on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving. Both remain in custody as investigations continue.
The incident has left the Telugu student community in the UK and their families back home in deep grief, as they await further updates.
