U.S. Updates Diversity Visa Lottery Process for DV-2027

The U.S. Department of State has announced that changes will soon be introduced to the entry process for the Diversity Visa (DV) Lottery as part of the upcoming DV-2027 program. The DV Lottery offers a pathway to lawful permanent residency for up to 55,000 individuals annually from countries with historically low levels of immigration to the United States.

In a notice released this week, the Department confirmed that the registration procedure for DV-2027 is being updated, although specific details about the modifications have not yet been disclosed. Information regarding the opening of the application window and the schedule for checking results on the Electronic Status Check (ESC) portal will be announced in the coming weeks.

Officials emphasized that while the entry process is being revised, the visa issuance timeline remains unchanged. Individuals selected in the DV-2027 draw will be eligible to apply for their immigrant visas between October 1, 2026, and September 30, 2027 — the standard one-year period designated for processing Diversity Visa cases.

The Diversity Visa program, commonly known as the Green Card Lottery, aims to promote diversity in the U.S. immigrant population by offering opportunities to applicants from underrepresented countries.

The State Department has advised prospective applicants to regularly monitor the official website — dvprogram.state.gov — for upcoming announcements regarding the new registration guidelines and key dates.
