The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs has launched a new digital service to provide faster assistance to Golden Visa holders stranded abroad. According to Gulf News, this service enables residents who have lost their passports to obtain a return permit within 30 minutes, completely free of charge.
The electronic return permit acts as an emergency travel document that allows a single entry into the UAE but cannot be used for travel to other countries. The ministry clarified that this facility is also available to registered family members of Golden Visa holders, including spouses and children, provided they hold valid residency permits under the same scheme.
Developed in collaboration with the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP), this initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance and simplify consular services for UAE residents abroad. It includes several new support measures such as the issuance of return permits for lost or damaged passports, a 24/7 hotline (+971 2493 1133) for direct assistance, emergency and crisis support through UAE embassies and consulates worldwide, and repatriation and burial coordination in cases of death abroad, ensuring cooperation with local health and government authorities.
Golden Visa holders can apply for the return permit via the Ministry’s official website or mobile app using their UAE Pass digital ID. Applicants need to provide a report of the lost passport, Golden Visa details, and a recent passport-size photograph. Once submitted, the permit is processed and issued within 30 minutes and remains valid for seven days from approval.
The ministry stressed that this return permit is meant exclusively for re-entry into the UAE and cannot replace an international travel document. It also reaffirmed that Golden Visa holders are included in the UAE’s official evacuation and emergency response plans, highlighting the government’s strong commitment to safeguarding and supporting long-term residents during crises and exceptional situations.
