The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has officially launched the first phase of its Blue Visa, a 10-year residency permit designed to recognize and support individuals who have made exceptional contributions to environmental protection and sustainability both within the UAE and globally. Announced during the World Governments Summit 2025, the Blue Visa program aims to attract sustainability advocates, innovators, and activists whose work aligns with the UAE’s ambitious environmental goals.

In the initial phase of the Blue Visa program, 20 distinguished sustainability thought leaders and innovators will be granted residency. These individuals will include members of international organizations, leading global companies, distinguished environmental researchers, and award-winning activists. The UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, in collaboration with the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Ports Security (ICP), will oversee the distribution of these residency permits.

The Blue Visa is a key initiative under the UAE’s broader sustainability agenda, marking 2024 as the “Year of Sustainability.” It is an extension of the country’s Golden and Green Residency programs, which were previously introduced to attract investors, entrepreneurs, skilled professionals, and humanitarian pioneers. By awarding the Blue Visa, the UAE recognizes and supports individuals dedicated to driving positive environmental change across the globe.

The Blue Visa provides recipients with numerous benefits, including enhanced opportunities for collaboration on environmental projects, access to financial support, and a platform for recognition of their invaluable contributions to environmental protection. Successful applicants will have the chance to work closely with UAE-based initiatives and gain resources that will further amplify their impact.

How to Apply for the UAE Blue Visa
Individuals interested in applying for the Blue Visa must submit their applications through the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Ports Security (ICP). Nominations for long-term residency can also be made by relevant government agencies in the sustainability sector. In line with approved procedures, applicants must obtain electronic approval through applications submitted by these designated agencies.

The ICP will facilitate a smooth application process, offering 24/7 access to the Blue Visa service through its website and mobile application. The process is designed to ensure that only the most deserving sustainability advocates receive this prestigious residency, in accordance with the program’s approved terms and conditions.

The UAE’s introduction of the Blue Visa is a significant milestone in its commitment to fostering a sustainable future. By recognizing and supporting sustainability pioneers, the UAE aims to further its leadership in environmental stewardship, positioning itself as a hub for global innovation in sustainability.
