British Defence Secretary John Healey has announced the launch of a 50-day international military support campaign aimed at bolstering Ukraine’s defence capabilities and increasing pressure on Russia to engage in peace negotiations.
The announcement follows a Ukraine Defence Contact Group (UDCG) meeting held on Monday, where allied nations agreed to supply critical air defence ammunition to Ukraine. “This is part of a 50-day drive to arm Ukraine and force Putin to the negotiating table,” Healey stated on social media platform X.
The initiative aligns with recent remarks by former U.S. President Donald Trump, who claimed to have secured commitments from NATO allies for large-scale arms deliveries to Ukraine. Trump also warned Russia of a second round of tariffs should it fail to reach a peace agreement within 50 days, according to Xinhua News Agency.
As part of the campaign, the United Kingdom and Germany have agreed to jointly supply air defence missiles to Ukraine—a move that forms part of a broader European effort to reinforce Ukrainian defences.
According to the UK Ministry of Defence, Britain has already delivered over £150 million ($202.5 million) worth of air defence missiles and artillery in the past two months. The UK is also accelerating procurement to deliver hundreds more air defence missiles and thousands of artillery shells.
Total British defence support for Ukraine this year is projected to exceed £700 million, which includes the equipment already delivered, reaffirming the UK’s commitment to Ukraine’s sovereignty and security.
