Union Minister’s son gets bail in Lakhimpur incident

A key development has taken place in the wake of the first phase of polling in Uttar Pradesh. The accused in the Lakhimpur incident, which created a stir across the country, was granted bail.

The Allahabad high court’s Lucknow bench on Thursday granted bail to Ashish Mishra, the son of Union minister Ajay Mishra Teni, who was arrested in October in connection with the mowing down of four farmers who were protesting against three controversial farm deregulation laws. Police arrested Ashish Mishra on October 9 and remanded him into custody.

On October 3, 2021, a vehicle that belonged to Teni’s convoy ran over farmers during the protest. The incident sparked protests, which left four more people dead, including a local journalist.

However, the union minister asserted that his son was not present at the site of the vehicle-ramming incident. He maintained that their driver was at the wheel, and the car lost control before slamming into the farmers.
