The United States has recently deported a second batch of Indian immigrants, with 119 individuals arriving at Amritsar International Airport late on Saturday night. This follows the first deportation flight on February 5, which saw 104 Indian nationals sent back to India. These deportations are part of a broader crackdown on illegal immigration under the Donald Trump administration’s stringent immigration policies.
The deported individuals hail from various states across India, with the largest group coming from Punjab, comprising 67 individuals. Haryana follows with 33 deportees, while Gujarat saw 8 individuals sent back. Uttar Pradesh, Goa, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan contributed smaller numbers, with 3, 2, and 2 deportees, respectively. Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir each had one deportee in this batch.
The deportees were flown aboard a US Air Force C-17 Globemaster aircraft, which landed at Amritsar at 11:40 PM. Many families of the deported individuals gathered at the airport to receive their loved ones. A third US military flight, carrying an additional 157 deportees, is expected to land in India on Sunday.
This intensification of deportations signals the continuation of the US’s firm stance on illegal immigration, raising concerns among Indian communities abroad. The Indian government is actively engaging with US authorities to address issues surrounding the deportation process and the treatment of those being sent back.
With additional flights planned, it remains to be seen whether this crackdown will persist, leaving many wondering about the broader implications for Indian nationals in the United States.
