This initiative comes ahead of the upcoming academic session and underscores the United States’ continued commitment to supporting student mobility.
The announcement, made via the embassy’s official social media channels, was accompanied by a digital poster stating, “Thousands of student visa appointments are available across MISSION INDIA.” A link to a webpage displaying visa appointment availability by country was also shared for applicant reference.
This move aligns with recent statements by US Ambassador to India, Eric Garcetti, who emphasized the high priority placed on student visas. In an April 2024 interview with PTI, Ambassador Garcetti highlighted the enduring value of people-to-people ties and confirmed that the US Mission in India was preparing for a larger volume of student visa applications this year.
India remains a vital source of international students for the United States. In 2023, the US consular team in India issued more than 140,000 student visas—the highest number issued to any country—for the third consecutive year. Additionally, the broader US Mission in India processed a record 1.4 million visas across various categories during the same period.
