Mexico has strongly condemned a ruling by the United States Supreme Court dismissing its lawsuit against eight American gun manufacturers accused of facilitating illegal arms trafficking into the country.
In an official statement, Mexico’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed “deep disagreement” with the decision, reaffirming its commitment to curb the flow of illicit weapons through all available legal and diplomatic channels.
The lawsuit, initially filed in August 2021 in a federal court in Boston, sought to hold U.S. gunmakers legally accountable for supplying firearms that fuel violence and empower criminal organizations in Mexico. While the Supreme Court’s ruling blocks this case, it does not affect a separate 2022 lawsuit filed in Tucson, Arizona, targeting five U.S. gun dealers. That case remains ongoing and is currently in the evidence-gathering stage.
“Mexico has presented solid arguments demonstrating the harm caused by gun manufacturing companies and will continue its fight against arms trafficking to protect its citizens,” the ministry stated.
