US Unveils Trump Gold Card, Welcomes Wealthy Indian Nationals

At the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USIPF) Leadership Summit 2025, US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick introduced the Trump Gold Card program as a groundbreaking initiative poised to reshape US immigration policy. Announced by President Donald Trump in February 2025, the Trump Gold Card offers a new pathway to permanent US residency and eventual citizenship for high-net-worth individuals who invest $5 million in the American economy. This program is positioned as a replacement for the existing EB-5 visa, targeting global entrepreneurs and investors seeking to contribute to US economic growth.

Lutnick emphasized that India is a primary focus market for the Trump Gold Card, given the significant interest among wealthy Indian nationals. He described the program as a transformative gateway for global entrepreneurs to gain residency status akin to green card holders, with attractive tax benefits. Notably, Trump Gold Card holders may choose between paying global taxes or limiting their tax liabilities to US assets only, with exemptions from inheritance and global tax obligations.

Despite ongoing challenges faced by Indian students due to tightened visa regulations and deportations, Lutnick expressed optimism that the Trump Gold Card will be highly popular among affluent Indian investors who are eager to engage with and contribute to the US economy. This initiative signals a strategic shift toward welcoming investment-driven immigration, reinforcing the US commitment to fostering innovation and economic partnerships with key global markets such as India.
