There is a fine line between language and slang but there are those who fail to understand the difference. They feel that using a particular slang only gives them identity. That seems to be the case right now with the Telangana based TV channels. It is observed that there is a forced Telangana slang being seen in programs.
Telugu language is not just Telangana slang. Srikakulam, Vizag, Godavari, Krishna-Guntur, Nellore, Chittoor, Anantapur – all these places have their respective slangs. If one or two programs are seen with the Telangana slang it is fine but many feel forcibly some interviews and programs are being shaped with Telangana slang.
Even native Telangana people are now finding it inconvenient. Many are not used to that slang and that level. Those who come from well educated families in Warangal and Karimnagar do not speak with the Telangana slang. Unless you have some close rapport with mass people, you cannot catch it.
Even those who are born in Srikakulam or Vizag will not speak that slang unless they have that ground level exposure. But with anchors forcing the guests and participants to speak in Telangana slang things have become embarrassing. Let us hope the amends are made.
