Andhra Jyothy Managing Director Vemuri Radhakrishna, known for his staunch support of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), has once again grabbed attention with his weekly column “Kotha Paluku.” The column, famous for its pointed criticism of Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy and praise for N. Chandrababu Naidu, enjoys wide readership due to its bold and unconventional commentary.
This Sunday, Radhakrishna’s column made headlines for its sharp critique of senior actor and TDP MLA Nandamuri Balakrishna. He targeted Balakrishna’s discourteous behavior and inappropriate remarks in the Andhra Pradesh assembly. Even social media users, who often criticize Radhakrishna’s writings, praised this particular article for its candidness.
Radhakrishna emphasized that the issue was not merely Balakrishna’s words, but his overall conduct in the assembly. “This isn’t his first term as MLA — it’s his third. Can we assume he doesn’t know assembly decorum? Speaking with sunglasses pushed up on his head and both hands in his pockets is a clear breach of legislative etiquette,” he wrote.
He added that Balakrishna often displays a lack of situational awareness. While his remarks may amuse his fans, they are inappropriate in a legislative setting. Radhakrishna also pointed out the irony that Balakrishna, who recently called Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy “psycho” in the assembly, had once enjoyed Jagan’s support as president of the Balakrishna Fans Association in Kadapa.
Radhakrishna stressed that restraint would enhance Balakrishna’s respect. “As an actor, he can behave as he likes, but as an MLA, he cannot say, ‘I’ll do what I want.’ He must abide by the traditions and values of the assembly,” he noted.
To manage potential fallout, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu reportedly visited actor-politician Pawan Kalyan, who was unwell, and also contacted Chiranjeevi to pacify tensions.
Radhakrishna further highlighted a historical precedent, noting that when former MP K. Keshava Rao’s son, now in Congress, was involved in a shooting incident, Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy had intervened to protect him, demonstrating how political influence has long played a role in sensitive matters.
