Hyderabad: Kiran Kumar Reddy had only a three year stint as the Chief Minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh. But in those three years, he faced problems which a CM would normally face over a period of ten years such as the T-agitation, Jagan’s rebellion, Phailin cyclone, ‘Sakala Janula Samme’, non-cooperation from legislators etc.
When Harish Rao was trying to blackmail the government in the Assembly, Kiran got up and uttered his famous quote, “I will not give you people a single paise. Get lost and do what you can.”Many developmental programmes taken up by Kiran during this period were completely overshadowed by the Telangana agitation. Suffice to say, that he managed to impress quite a few people across Seemandhra despite a poor poll showing by his Party ‘Jai Samaikhyandhra’.
People didn’t vote for JSP because they knew that the party would not win and they didn’t want their vote to go waste. Now the BJP is very keen on roping in Kiran Kumar to its fold as he would lend respectability to their efforts to broaden the Party base in AP. But Venkayya Naidu is proving to be the only hurdle to these plans.
Given the natural ideological antagonism between Kiran and Chandrababu, the latter through Venkayya Naidu’s good offices is trying to prevent Kiran from becoming a threat to the TDP. Only time will tell whether Venkayya will succeed in his efforts or not.
