Venu Sriram’s Thammudu Rejected by Nani

Filmmaker Venu Sriram, known for his commercially successful films like Middle Class Abbayi (MCA) with Natural Star Nani and Vakeel Saab starring Pawan Kalyan, earned the reputation of a bankable director in Tollywood. However, his recent outing Thammudu has not lived up to expectations, drawing a tepid response at the box office.

Interestingly, the script of Thammudu was initially pitched to Nani following the success of MCA. Despite their previous hit collaboration, Nani turned down the project, reportedly sensing a lack of originality and freshness in the narrative. Known for his keen judgment and ability to connect with compelling storytelling, Nani’s decision seems to have been validated in hindsight.

Around the same period, Venu Sriram also developed another script titled Icon, which was planned with Allu Arjun. However, that project was eventually shelved in 2022, adding to a string of setbacks for the director.

With Nani stepping away from Thammudu, the film eventually landed with actor Nithiin, who has been facing a rough patch at the box office. Whether by choice or circumstance, Nithiin took on the project, but the film’s underwhelming reception has done little to alter his current trajectory.

As the Telugu film industry continues to evolve, audience expectations are rapidly shifting toward innovative and engaging content. For Venu Sriram to retain his standing and relevance, a conscious pivot toward fresh storytelling and original concepts may be imperative.
