Veteran Tamil director K Balachander is critically ill. The octogenarian filmmaker has been admitted to Kaveri hospital in Chennai and his condition is stated as serious. He is 84. Balachander is in Intensive Care Unit and is constantly supervised by team of doctors. Balachander is the man who introduced superstars Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan to the Tamil cinema and world of Indian cinema.
He has directed highly critical-acclaim films like Maro Charitra, Akali Rajyam, Apporva Sahodarulu, Anthuleni Katha, Idi Katha Kaadu, Rudraveena. He also ventured into film production and established Kavithalaya Productions. His name also rings bell in Hindi film industry as he directed films like Ek Duuje Ke Liye and Ek Nai Paheli.
Balachander also acted in several films and is playing significant role in Kamal Haasan’s upcoming film Uttama Villain. Balachander has directed over 100 films. His last film was Uday Kiran-starrer Poi in which he was seen in a cameo appearance. Balachander’s son Kailsam Balachander (54) died four months ago due to lung-related issues.
