Once firebrand politician brothers from Anantapur – former MP J C Diwakar Reddy and former MLA J C Prabhakar Reddy – have been going through a very bad phase, ever since YSR Congress party led by Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy came to power in the state.
While the mining department of Jagan government forced the closure of Trisul Granites belonging the JC brothers and cancelled its quarry licenses, the transport department seized more than 100 buses belonging to Diwakar Travels owned by the brothers.
In the latest episode, the Vigilance department cracked the whip on the transport business of the JC brothers and found large scale irregularities in the bus services not only in Andhra Pradesh, but also in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Nagaland states.
According to the latest investigations, it was found that Diwakar Travels had purchased condemned lorries from Ashok Leyland, remodeled them into buses and had been running them with the same registered numbers of lorries in the four states.
It is learnt they had got 43 such buses registered in the name of C Gopal Reddy and Company, 26 vehicles in the name of Jatadhara and Company. During the inspections, as many as six such buses were detected. Inquiries are going on even in Nagaland, as buses bought in that state were also having bogus registrations.
“Even the no-clearance certificates issued by the police were also fake. As of now, 66 scrap lorries had been converted into buses and another 88 buses were under similar remodeling,” the vigilance officials said.
