Vijay Deverakonda Clarifies Tribal Remarks Amid Controversy

Vijay Deverakonda recently attended the pre-release event of Retro, where he made a heartfelt speech. During his address, he shared his thoughts on the ongoing situation along the India-Pakistan border, and in the course of his speech, he made a reference to the tribal community and mentioned how people, much like in the past, are fighting without a cause. This statement, however, attracted negative attention from the tribal community, with several posts circulating on social media against the actor. A police complaint was even filed in response to his remarks.

In light of the controversy, Vijay has issued a statement clarifying his words. He said, “It has come to my attention that a remark I made during the Retro audio launch event has caused concern among some members of the public. I want to sincerely clarify that there was absolutely no intention to hurt or target any community, particularly our Scheduled Tribes, whom I deeply respect and consider an integral part of our country.”

Vijay further elaborated that his comments were meant to promote unity and peace, emphasizing how India must stand together as one. “In what world would I, while urging us to unite as a country, deliberately discriminate against any group of Indians? We are all family, like brothers and sisters,” he added. He clarified that the word “tribe” was used in its historical and dictionary context, referring to a time when human society globally was organized into tribes and clans, often in conflict. He clarified that it was never meant to refer to the Scheduled Tribes classification, which became formalized only in the 20th century.

“I was speaking about peace, progress, and unity,” Vijay concluded. “If my words were misunderstood or hurtful to anyone, I deeply regret that. My message was always one of unity and upliftment. I remain committed to using my platform to foster togetherness, not division.”
