After Shah Rukh Khan stepped away from the iconic Don franchise, Farhan Akhtar has been keen on reinventing the saga with Ranveer Singh taking over the titular role in Don 3. Although the project was announced long ago, the film’s production has faced repeated delays — primarily due to the team’s struggle to finalize a powerful villain.
While Shah Rukh Khan delivered stellar performances in the first two installments, fans are now curious to see how Ranveer will carry forward the legacy. However, the prolonged delay in shooting is dampening that excitement.
Reportedly, the makers first approached talented actor Vikrant Massey for the antagonist’s role. But Vikrant is said to have turned it down, citing creative dissatisfaction with the character’s design. Following his rejection, the team reached out to Telugu star Vijay Deverakonda for the same role. Surprisingly, even he declined the offer.
Sources suggest that Deverakonda, currently occupied with multiple Telugu projects, felt that playing a villain could potentially clash with his long-term career strategy and carefully crafted image. Despite the prestige of being part of a massive action franchise, both Vikrant Massey and Vijay Deverakonda passed on the opportunity — a development that has puzzled many in the industry.
As of now, Farhan Akhtar and his team are still on the lookout for an actor who can convincingly portray a formidable villain opposite Ranveer Singh. Creative differences, character limitations, and concerns over star image seem to be key reasons behind these rejections.
Fans, however, believe that Vijay Deverakonda would have been a perfect match to rival Ranveer Singh’s high-energy presence on screen. Interestingly, with both actors known for their unique fashion sense and charisma, audiences are still hopeful that they might share the screen someday in the future.
