Vijay–Sangeetha Divorce Case Adjourned to June 15 Amid Political Spotlight

Amid intensified political campaigning ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, the divorce proceedings involving actor-turned-politician Vijay and his wife Sangeetha Vijay came up for hearing on Monday at the family welfare court in Chengalpattu.

The case, which has attracted significant public attention due to Vijay’s growing political prominence as the leader of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), has now been adjourned to June 15.

Earlier, the court had directed Vijay to appear in person for the proceedings. However, based on a fresh joint petition submitted by the legal representatives of both parties, the hearing was postponed.

Sources familiar with the matter stated that the lawyers informed the court that Vijay and Sangeetha have mutually agreed to part ways. The petition reportedly mentioned that both sides have reached an amicable understanding, paving the way for a smooth and uncontested legal process.

It is also understood that key issues such as alimony and asset division—particularly those concerning the future welfare of their children—have already been discussed and broadly agreed upon between the two parties. While financial details were not disclosed in court, the focus appears to be on a mutually settled arrangement without dispute.

Taking note of the submissions, the presiding judge accepted the request and adjourned the matter to June 15 for further proceedings.

The development comes at a politically sensitive time, with Vijay actively engaged in campaign activities across Tamil Nadu ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections. His dual identity as a film star and political leader has kept him in the spotlight, with personal developments drawing considerable media attention.

Although neither Vijay nor Sangeetha appeared before the court, the proceedings indicate a likely shift toward an uncontested divorce based on mutual consent. Legal experts note that such settlements typically progress faster once both parties continue to adhere to agreed terms.

The case will be taken up again in June, when further clarity on the final settlement is expected to emerge.
