Vijayasai Reddy serves notices to Venkaiah Naidu demanding debate on Special Status

The ruling YSRCP, which has been fighting for the demand of special status for Andhra Pradesh has intensified it’s fight and took a step ahead stating that a debate should be conducted on Special Status.

On Monday, Rajya Sabha member, Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Commerce V.Vijayasai Reddy served notices to Rajya Sabha Chairman Venkaiah Naidu.

The notice was served under Rule no 267. In the notice, he urged the Chairman of the house to call for a debate on the Special Status by keeping all the other issues aside.

However, Chairman of the House Venkaiah Naidu is yet to reply to the YSRCP’s notice that was issued by Vijayasai Reddy.

In the notice, Vijayasai Reddy mentioned that Special Category Status is the key aspect that was sanctioned by the previous Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during the bifurcation of the state.

The Rajya Sabha member also reminded that the Union Council of Ministers back on March 1, 2014 has agreed to give special status to Andhra Pradesh.

It’s been seven years since the state was divided. But the Union Cabinet has failed to fulfill the promise made. As it is a key issue, the rest of the issues should be sidelined and a discussion should be held on this, he said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also announced that special status will be granted to Andhra Pradesh during his visit to Amaravati to lay a foundation stone for the capital city.

He even promised to lend a helping hand to Andhra Pradesh to develop a new capital city which will compete with the national capital Delhi. His assurance and promise remained just as words. Land and water from various pilgrimages and historical places were brought to be used in the construction of the buildings in Amaravati.

Special status is required to Andhra Pradesh as the state was bifurcated without a proper capital city. During the bifurcation, Hyderabad was made a common capital for 10 years.

However, after the state was divided as Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, the then Chief Minister of AP Nara Chandrababu Naidu decided to have a new capital in Amaravati region.
