Thalapathy Vijay recently announced his retirement from cinema, stating that Jana Nayagan will be his last film. Like Chiranjeevi and Pawan Kalyan before him, Vijay has also launched his own political party, making it clear that he has no plans to return to movies.
While Chiru and Pawan eventually resumed their acting careers despite initially stepping away, Vijay’s fans are hoping that history will repeat itself. Adding fuel to this speculation is Mamitha Baiju, the Malayalam star who rose to fame with Premalu and co-starred with Vijay in Jana Nayagan. On the film’s last day of shoot, she reportedly asked Vijay if this would truly be his final movie. Vijay’s answer was cautious and left the door slightly open — enough to keep fans guessing.
Sources say Vijay himself is not entirely sure if Jana Nayagan will mark the end of his cinematic career. Much of his decision will depend on the outcome of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections due in the next two years. Vijay is currently focused on dedicating his time to strengthening his party and working closely with people to understand their struggles at the grassroots level.
Historically, top stars who have enjoyed massive success at the box office rarely walk away from films forever, despite their political ambitions. Only time will tell what path Vijay eventually takes.
Directed by H. Vinoth, Jana Nayagan is said to be a remake of the Telugu hit Bhagavanth Kesari.
