Vishal’s Bold Move: Turns Director for Makutam

Actor Vishal is making headlines again — not just for his wedding announcement with Sai Dhansika, but also for his bold new move in cinema. After years of struggling for a solid hit, the actor has now decided to step behind the camera. His upcoming film Makutam will not only feature him as the lead but also mark his directorial debut, a move that has surprised fans and the industry alike.

Initially, Makutam was announced under the direction of Ravi Arasu, with the first look posters already out. However, Vishal later revealed that he himself would take over the director’s role. He explained that the decision wasn’t made out of ego or compulsion, but out of responsibility toward the project and his creative vision.

Interestingly, this shift places Vishal in direct comparison with Dhanush, who is currently one of Tamil cinema’s few successful actor-directors. Dhanush, who directed Power Paandi and later films like Raayan, Jabilamma Neeku Antha Kopama, and Idly Kottu, has managed to balance acting and direction effectively. Following his footsteps, actors like Jayam Ravi have also begun exploring direction while maintaining acting careers.

For Vishal, though, the stakes are higher. His recent films Mark Anthony, Rathnam, and Latthi did not perform well at the box office. His only pending hope, Thupparivalan 2, has been delayed for a long time. Now, with Makutam, Vishal is taking on double responsibility as both actor and director, hoping to reinvent himself in a competitive industry.

Insiders say Vishal is sticking to his comfort zone with action and gangster themes. But given the evolving tastes of audiences, this could be both a challenge and an opportunity. Whether he manages to recreate his lost glory or fade under the weight of expectations will be known once Makutam hits the screens.
