Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi, who will soon be seen in Sandeep Reddy Vanga–Prabhas’s upcoming film Spirit, has sparked a heated debate with his latest comments about superstar Shah Rukh Khan. His statements have gone viral and triggered strong reactions across social media.
In a recent interview with Pinkvilla, Vivek spoke about how today’s generation knows very little about legendary stars of the past. He explained that many youngsters don’t recognize actors from the 1960s, and drew a parallel to future generations possibly not knowing today’s icons.
Vivek said that by 2050, kids might ask “Who is Shah Rukh Khan?”, the same way many youngsters today ask, “Who is Raj Kapoor?” despite Raj Kapoor being considered a cinematic legend.
“You and I may call him the god of cinema, but if you ask a youngster who is a fan of Ranbir Kapoor, they might not even know who Raj Kapoor was. History eventually relegates us all to nothingness,” Vivek stated.
His remarks instantly ignited controversy. SRK fans were upset, calling the comments disrespectful, while many others defended him, saying he simply used SRK as an example to explain generational change and meant no harm.
Meanwhile, Vivek is currently promoting Mastii 4, the latest instalment of the adult comedy franchise, co-starring Riteish Deshmukh and Aftab Shivdasani, which releases in theatres today.
