Watch: First ever all-women spacewalk

Christina Koch and Jesica Meir – these two women astronauts made history as they participated in an all-female spacewalk. They have walked outside the International Space Station at over 7:50 a.m on Friday.

And the reason is, they had to make an urgent repair to space station’s power system. They concluded the spacewalk 7 hours and 17 minutes later, just before 3 p.m. “Another milestone in human space exploration is officially complete!’ said a tweet from NASA.

Moreover, the ladies were also successful in their mission to replace a faulty battery charge/discharge unit (BCDU) that failed to activate earlier this month when new lithium-ion batteries were installed on the station’s exterior, according to NASA.

The video of this history-making has been live-streamed, however, NASA says the failure has not affected station operations or crew safety. Jessica Meir and Christina Koch were seen inside the Quest airlock preparing the U.S. spacesuits and tools they will use on their first spacewalk together on the International Space Station.

It is observed that, earlier in March, NASA had planned an all-female spacewalk but the event has been abrupted as there weren’t enough spacesuits of the right size available on the station. In fact, NASA received falk for not having uniforms stock.

It was Jessica Meir’s first spacewalk and Koch’s fourth, according to NASA. President Donald Trump thanked and applauded them, saying “This is truly historic, and you’re right now on television all over the world so don’t get nervous.”
