The farmers of Thullur, proposed location of the new capital, on Monday woke up to the shocker of their life as their farms were burn to ashes. Some unidentified groups have set fire to banana plantations in several villages of Tadepalli and Thullur Mandals in Guntur in the wee hours. The miscreants burnt the bamboo stocks, vegetable gardens, greenhouses, huts and grass in the fields. With this a number of poles were gutted damaging banana plantations causing heavy damage to the farmers in the region. Farmers of villages Penumaka, Lingayapalem, Mandadam, Venkatapalam and Rayapudi paid hefty price.
A state of quandary is prevailing in Thullur and surrounding mandals with government and opposition crossing swords on the issue and blaming each other for the ill-fate incident. Claiming that the fileds of farmers were burnt as they’re opposing to government’s proposed Land Pooling System (LPS), the opposition YSRCP leaders blamed TDP activists as responsible for burning fields. Meanwhile, TDP activists and leaders went on to allege that opposition YSRCP is behind the sabotage as they want to gain political advantage of the situation. TDP senior leaders too opined that YSRCP is behind the incident and in return blaming TDP.
DGP Ramudu: Reacting on the spree of fire accidents in the fields in Thullur, DGP Ramudu suspected a possible sabotage in the new capital. He stated that he inquired with the people of six villages and said the culprits involved with the incident will be kept behind the bars soon.
CM Chandrababu Naidu: Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu immediately spoke to few victims over phone on the issue. Naidu learnt that even the lands of farmers who are in favour of Land Pooling were burnt in the man-made accident. Ordering for a detailed probe, Naidu constituted a special committee to probe the issue.
Parakala Prabhakar: Advisor (Communications) to AP Government, Dr Parakala Prabhakar has severely responded on the Thullur fire accident incident. Government will inquire the incident from all corners. According to prima facie, Parakala stated that the estimated loss at Tadepalli is Rs 25 Lakh and Thullur at Rs 12 Lakh respectively.
Prathipati Pulla Rao: Agricultural minister Prathipati Pulla Rao, who rushed to the accident spot in order to console the victims, was not allowed into the limits as few YSRCP activists, farmers objected Agricultural minister’s visit in the heat of the incident. Pulla Rao openly lashed out at YSRCP activists and stated that YSRCP resorted to these acts at the behest of its chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy in order to stop the capital works.
Chinna Rajappa: AP Deputy CM and Home Minister Nimmakayala Chinna Rajappa suspected the foul play of YSRCP in the Thullur incident. He, however, expressed his confidence on the police and stated that the culprits would be brought under the book.
YSRCP: YSRCP leader and former minister Parthasarathy leveled serious allegations against State government in the issue of burnt fields. Stating that he has no belief in police, he asked Governor to intervene in the matter and send a detail report to the Centre. Parthasaradthy said that government is muzzling the farmers and trying to take the lands forcibly.
Soon after the incident, YSRCP leaders rushed to the accident spot and started blaming the ruling government.
