What’s behind KCR’s sudden meet with Rakesh Tikait?

Why did KCR suddenly have a meeting with the farmers’ leader Rakesh Tikait? On Friday, he had a sudden meeting with Rakesh Tikait at the Pragathi Bhavan. This set off speculations as to whether KCR is planning something big for the BRS at the national level. However, those in the know say that this meeting has more to do with the state politics than with the national politics.

Analysts say that it is a foregone conclusion that BJP’s presidential candidate Draupadi Murmu is going to win hands down. The vice-presidential elections too are loaded in favour of the BJP. There are no elections anywhere in the country till December and TRS has no influence in places where elections are going to happen this year-end. So, there is no use talking about the BRS now.

The real reason, according to those in the know, is that KCR is worried over the discontent among the farmers in Telangana. The farmers are unhappy over failure in paddy procurement. They are also unhappy that the Rythu Bandhu is not implemented yet for those farmers with more than 15 acres of land holdings. There is deep dissatisfaction about the way KCR is handling the farm sector.

Meanwhile, there are reports from the PK’s survey that a large number of the rural MLAs are deeply unpopular and might not win the elections this time. One of the main reasons for this is the failure of the TRS to act in the farm sector. So, KCR wants to organize farmers’ meets in every district to bring back the farmers to the TRS fold.

He wants Rakesh Tikait and other farmers leaders from North India to address these meetings and praise KCR’s policies. This will help in turning the tide, KCR feels. Hence, he has held this sudden meeting with Tikait, according to sources. Let’s wait and see how things unfold in the coming days.
