Which way to go?: Dilemma before DL Ravindra Reddy

He was once the unquestioned king of Mydukur. He had won for a record six times from this constituency in Kadapa district. He registered impressive victories from 1978 till 2009. In 2014 and 2019, Settipalli Raghurami Reddy of the YSRCP won. No marks for guessing the leader we are talking about. Yes, we are talking about the redoubtable DL Ravindra Reddy.

With the Congress falling out of favour of the people of Andhra Pradesh, Mydukur went into the kitty of YSRCP. DL did not even contest in 2019. Now, he is looking to make a comeback, but does not know where to go and which party to contest from. Though he would have liked to go to the Telugu Desam Party, the party has a strong candidate in the form of Putta Sudhakar Yadav. Though he has lost twice in 2014 and 2019, he is all set to contest again in 2024.

He has recently been backing the YSRCP. His support was crucial in both 2014 and 2019. However, the YSRCP did not reward him in any way. The party has given MLC seats to Badvel’s Govinda Reddy and Proddatur’s Ramesh Yadav. Now, he can neither go to the TDP nor stay in the YSRCP, which is not recognising his seniority.

There are some reports that DL might join the BJP and contest on its ticket from Mydukur. He feels the Jana Sena too would support him in 2024. But, with the reports of a possible TDP-BJP-Jana Sena tie-up, his position has become untenable. What if Mydukur goes to the TDP in the seat-sharing? So, he is now in two-minds as to what to do and how to revive his sagging political career.
