What will a politician do when the elections are round the corner? He would strain his every nerve to woo the voters. He would go round the areas, meet the people and seek votes. He would make last ditch attempt to get that extra vote. But, here is a politician, who, instead of focusing on the impending elections, is focusing on a cycle yatra that involves the time and energies of the party workers.
CLP leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka has begun a five-day Padayatra that would end on March 12 in Khammam. This means a large number of party workers and leaders would be pre-occupied with this programme. Money would be pooled up for this. The yatra would end barely two days before the polling for the Graduate MLC constituency polling. There are serious doubts as to whether this would help the Congress Party in any which way. Already, the Congress campaign is a non-starter in Khammam district. In Bhadrachalam constituency, there is no campaign at all. In other places, only local leaders are campaigning.
Insiders say there is a reason behind this padayatra. This is an alibi for Mallu to escape the blame of defeat. He can always say that he was busy with the cycle yatra and did not focus on the elections. Thus, he can deflect the blame on others. Whatever the logic, the Congress, it is clear, is the biggest loser.
