A committee of five experts is in Hyderabad to finalize the India’s official entry to the prestigious Oscar Awards. The committee is headed by popular filmmaker, Amol Palekar. The committee will watch over 45 films nominated by various film industries in the country and announce their choice on September 25th.
Telugu film chamber of commerce had nominated SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus film, Baahubali. The movie will now compete with Bollywood biggies like Aamir Khan’s PK, Anurag Kashyap’s Ugly, Vishal Bhardwaj’s Haider and Priyanka Chopra’s Mary Kom.
As well as a spate of low budget indie gems like Masaan, Kaaka Muttai, Umrika etc. K Viswanath-Kamal Haasan’s classical film, Swati Mutyam was the last official Telugu entry to the Academy awards.
