Finally, Kalyanram has applied brakes to his flop streak with 118. The film has broken even within just 4 days of its release and has landed all parties in profits from today. Although 118 was released during the exam season, the good word of mouth has helped the film click at the box office. Even the low asking rates are helping the matters.
Trade pundits are predicting that 118 will end up collecting a share of nearly Rs 10 crore by the end of its full run. However, one can’t help but feel sorry for 118, as the wrong season the film released in is affecting the collections and is limiting its success range. 118 couldn’t show any impact at overseas box office.
Kalyanram had scored a blockbuster with Pataas by not releasing it along with the Sankranthi releases and instead releasing it on the January 25th. Had 118 released on the same date, the film would have been a much bigger hit and it would have collected nearly Rs 15 crores.
Even though the film has missed a golden chance to collect big, Kalyanram is happy to have ended his rough patch at last. Even Mahesh Koneru, who has turned a full time producer with 118, is buoyed by the success, and is planning his next project on a grand scale.
