YSRCP gets absolute majority in Council

Back when the TDP had an absolute majority in the Legislative Council, the YSRCP had moved a motion in the Assembly to abolish the Legislative Council. With the terms of each TDP member having come to an end in the months since the YSRCP became silent on the matter and even recently withdrew its application to abolish the council.

The YSRCP currently enjoys an absolute majority in the Council, with the unanimous election of 11 party candidates as MLCs under local bodies’ quota on Friday. There was only one independent candidate who filed a nomination, but he too withdrew his name soon after, thus giving the YSRCP a majority. The opposition parties didn’t have enough representation in the local bodies, to field a candidate for the MLC elections.

The YSRC candidates who were elected unopposed are: Indukuru Raghu Raju from Vizianagaram, Varudu Kalyani and Vamsi Krishna from Visakhapatnam, Ananta Uday Bhaskar from East Godavari, Talasila Raghuram and Mondithoka Arun Kumar from Krishna, Ummareddy Venkateshwarlu and Murugudu Hanumantha Rao from Guntur, Tumati Madhava Rao from Prakasam, Krishna Raghava Jayendra Bharat from Chittoor and YS Shivarami Reddy from Anantapur.

With this, the YSRCP now has a representation of 32 members in the Council, the TDP has come down to 15, while the Bharatiya Janata party has one and the Progressive Democratic Front has four.
