YSRCP’s welfare schemes a curse to the common man?

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy announced a slew of welfare schemes during his election campaign. Whether he was successful or not, in implementing them after coming to power, he did put those schemes into effect after assuming office.

However, considering the dire financial situation of the state of Andhra Pradesh, the government is no doubt not able to keep up with the financial needs of these schemes, with the revenue of the state greatly dwindling, and with no financial institution in the country coming forward to give loans to the state.

As a result, all of that burden is now falling onto the shoulders of the common man, who is now subjected to an increase in the values of VAT and other taxes. The AP government has released a GO today, which states that the taxes on the prices of Petrol and Diesel have further been increased by Re. 1 each. The cess of this is to be collected from the dealer.

The government had passed this increase in taxes earlier this month, but brought it into effect now, keeping the possible backlash of the people in mind. The government has also said that the revenue collected from these amounts would be used to develop the road network of the state.

On the other hand, opposition leaders and other senior politicians are saying that road development is just a namesake for the government. They are saying that the government has increased these taxes to be able to facilitate and fund their welfare schemes for the poor. Furthermore, all opposition candidates are saying that the government is bankrupting the common man with its incompetencies and failures.
