Indian cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal and dancer Dhanashree Verma were officially granted a divorce by the Bandra family court in Mumbai on Thursday, marking the conclusion of a legal battle that lasted nearly two and a half years. The couple, who had filed for divorce by mutual consent, received the court’s decree following a directive from the Bombay High Court, which instructed the family court to expedite the decision due to Chahal’s commitments in the upcoming IPL season.
As per the court petition, Chahal and Dhanashree, who tied the knot on December 23, 2020, had been living separately since June 2022, ending their marriage within just 19 months. However, an Instagram post by Dhanashree, where she celebrated “730 days with my spinning star,” has sparked contradictions regarding their timeline of separation.
As part of the divorce settlement, the court directed Chahal to pay ₹4.75 crores in alimony to Dhanashree. The High Court also waived the standard six-month cooling period under the Hindu Marriage Act, following a plea from the couple, allowing the case to be fast-tracked.
Adding to the drama, Chahal’s choice of attire at the court proceedings grabbed attention. His t-shirt, which read “Be your own sugar daddy,” was perceived by netizens as a subtle dig at Dhanashree. Meanwhile, Dhanashree released a song addressing abusive marriages just ahead of the final hearing, further fueling speculation.
Additionally, rumors of Chahal’s alleged association with RJ Mahvash and Dhanashree’s rumored link with choreographer Pratik Utekar have been making waves on social media for the past few months, keeping the spotlight on their personal lives even after the court’s verdict.
