Thaman S on Marriage, Independence, and Social Media’s Impact

After the viral success of Mrs, starring Dangal actress Sanya Malhotra, men’s rights groups sparked controversy by demanding a ban, labeling it as toxic feminism. Clips from the film flooded Instagram and YouTube Shorts, igniting intense online debates.

Amid this, music composer Thaman S made headlines with his candid views on marriage. In a recent podcast, he described modern marriages as increasingly difficult and attributed the rising divorce rates to women seeking independence. He openly stated that he wouldn’t recommend marriage to anyone, calling it tough to sustain.

“Right now, I don’t want anyone to get married. It’s become difficult because women want independence and don’t want to be under anyone. I feel we’ve lost a certain kind of traditional mindset,” he remarked. He also blamed social media, particularly Instagram, for shifting relationship dynamics. “Post-COVID, everything changed. Instagram is a major influence. People only showcase the best moments, hiding the struggles behind them. I see divorces everywhere because no one wants to compromise.”

Despite the controversy surrounding his statements, Thaman remains focused on his work. Having recently composed music for Game Changer and Daaku Maharaj, he is now immersed in multiple projects across three industries—Telugu (The Raja Saab, OG, Akhanda 2), Hindi (Jaat), and Tamil (Sabdham). His packed schedule suggests that these debates haven’t slowed him down.
