9-Year-Old Sritej Still Unresponsive Months After Hyderabad Stampede Tragedy

More than three months after a tragic stampede at a Hyderabad theatre during the premiere of Pushpa 2: The Rule, nine-year-old Sritej continues to fight for his life. The devastating incident not only took his mother, Revathi, but also left him with critical injuries. Sadly, his condition remains unchanged—he is neurologically unresponsive and still unable to recognize his family.

Sritej is currently undergoing treatment at KIMS Hospital in Secunderabad, where doctors say there has been no improvement in his neurological state. He remains unresponsive to sensory stimuli, unable to follow simple verbal commands, or acknowledge the presence of his loved ones.

In addition to his unresponsive state, he suffers from intermittent dystonia, a condition causing involuntary movements in his upper body. He is receiving physiotherapy and rehabilitation to help manage these symptoms.

Despite the severity of his condition, doctors report that he is maintaining stable vital signs without the need for oxygen or ventilator support. While he initially required ventilatory assistance for a short period, his condition has since stabilized. To aid his nutrition, he recently underwent an Endoscopic Gastrostomy procedure, allowing him to receive nourishment through a feeding tube, which he is tolerating well.

The tragedy struck on December 4, 2024, at Sandhya Theatre during the premiere of Pushpa 2: The Rule, where Sritej and his mother had gone to watch the film. Revathi, just 39 years old, lost her life in the chaos that unfolded.

Actor Allu Arjun, who was present at the theatre that night, was booked alongside his team and the theatre management on charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder. He was arrested on December 13 but was granted interim bail the following day.

Following the heartbreaking incident, Allu Arjun, along with the producers and director of Pushpa 2: The Rule, announced a financial aid package of Rs 2 crore for Revathi’s family. The actor personally contributed Rs 1 crore, while production house Mythri Movies and film director Sukumar each donated Rs 50 lakh to support Sritej’s ongoing treatment and future needs.

On January 7, Allu Arjun visited KIMS Hospital to meet Sritej and his family, offering them words of support during this unimaginably difficult time.
