Swapna Dutt Breaks Silence on Amaravati Issue Amid Film Industry Caution

The Telugu film industry is reportedly maintaining a cautious and “safe” stance when it comes to Andhra Pradesh politics, especially after the turbulent period between 2019 and 2024 under the leadership of Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Industry observers say that many film personalities have since avoided openly reacting to political developments in Andhra Pradesh, possibly due to concerns over potential backlash. During the earlier tenure, veteran producer Ashwini Dutt was one of the few voices who openly spoke on several issues, even while handling big-budget projects like Kalki.

At present, the industry appears largely silent even after the inclusion of Amaravati as the capital through an amendment to the AP Reorganisation Act. Since the move has faced opposition from Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s political camp, many in the film industry seem hesitant to take a clear stand, possibly to avoid future political repercussions. Notably, only actors-turned-politicians like Pawan Kalyan and Nandamuri Balakrishna publicly welcomed the decision.

Amid this cautious atmosphere, producer Swapna Dutt emerged as one of the first from the film fraternity to openly react. She shared the official gazette on her Instagram story, welcoming the parliamentary move. Her response reflects the same boldness often associated with her father, Ashwini Dutt.

In an industry often perceived as dominated by strong male voices, Swapna Dutt’s stand has been noted as a rare and confident expression of opinion. She is currently producing the much-anticipated sequel to Kalki, which recently completed a major schedule featuring legendary actors Kamal Haasan and Amitabh Bachchan.
