Varanasi Set for 2027 as M. M. Keeravani Confirms Release Countdown

April 7, 2026

S. S. Rajamouli’s ambitious project Varanasi marks his first on-screen collaboration with Mahesh Babu. In the film, Mahesh Babu plays Rudhra — a devoted follower of Lord Shiva on a time-travelling quest for a cosmic artifact, while also portraying Lord Rama.

The film features Priyanka Chopra Jonas as Mandakini and Prithviraj Sukumaran as the antagonist, adding to the project’s massive pan-Indian appeal.

The makers had earlier locked April 7, 2027, as the release date. However, following the massive success of Dhurandhar, speculation arose that Rajamouli might split Varanasi into two parts and revise the release plan. There were also reports suggesting that both parts could be shot simultaneously, raising concerns about a possible delay.

Putting all rumours to rest, music director M. M. Keeravani recently shared a cryptic post on X, simply writing “365,” indicating that the film is firmly on track for its originally announced release date.

This update also hints that Varanasi will remain a single-part film, at least for now. With exactly one year to go, the countdown has officially begun for one of the most anticipated Indian films in recent times.

Fans are already expecting record-breaking openings, massive advance bookings, and a grand IMAX rollout for this mythological action spectacle.
