Kalki 2 Release May Get Delayed?

Usually, the excitement surrounding a sequel starts fading when there is a huge gap between the first and second installments. However, Kalki 2898 AD seems to be breaking that trend completely. Even without regular updates from the makers, the sequel continues to enjoy massive anticipation among audiences across the country.

One of the major reasons behind this sustained craze is the emotional depth and expansive cinematic world created by director Nag Ashwin in the first part. The unique mix of mythology, futuristic storytelling, and strong character arcs left fans eagerly waiting to see how the story unfolds in the sequel.

Another factor keeping the buzz alive is the film’s stellar cast. With stars like Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, and Kamal Haasan playing crucial roles, expectations for the sequel remain sky-high despite the long production gap.
At present, Nag Ashwin is reportedly busy shooting key scenes featuring Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan. Meanwhile, Prabhas is yet to join the sets as he is occupied with his other pan-India projects, including Fauji and Spirit.

Although there is uncertainty regarding Prabhas allocating bulk dates for the sequel this year, strong industry buzz suggests that the makers are eyeing a 2027 release for Kalki 2. Reports indicate that the team is considering December 2027 as a potential release window. It is also being said that Nag Ashwin plans to complete most of the major shooting portions by next June before shifting focus entirely toward the extensive post-production work.

However, achieving a December 2027 release currently appears challenging. Since Prabhas has not yet started filming for the sequel, significant portions of the shoot are still pending. Moreover, a visually ambitious film like Kalki requires a lengthy post-production process that could easily take more than six months after filming wraps up completely.

Given the scale of the project and Nag Ashwin’s commitment to delivering top-quality world-building and visual output, the filmmaker is unlikely to rush the process. As things stand now, the chances of Kalki 2 arriving in theatres in 2027 appear relatively slim unless the production progresses at a much faster pace in the coming months.
