Gautham Menon Reflects on Suriya’s Exit from Dhruva Natchathiram
The much-awaited Tamil spy action thriller Dhruva Natchathiram, starring Vikram and directed by Gautham Vasudev Menon, has faced significant delays since its initial announcement in 2013. Originally, the project was conceived with Suriya in the lead role. In a recent interview with Behindwoods, Gautham Vasudev Menon opened up about the circumstances surrounding Suriya’s exit from the film.
Expressing his disappointment, Gautham shared that Suriya’s decision to step away from the project stemmed from a lack of confidence in him. “I feel like Suriya shouldn’t even have questioned whether to do Dhruva Natchathiram or not. He should’ve just agreed to it,” the director remarked. Gautham emphasized their successful collaborations on Kaakha Kaakha and Vaaranam Aayiram, which were both critically acclaimed and loved by audiences.
Reflecting on their creative synergy, Gautham recalled how their earlier projects began seamlessly, often starting with just an idea and moving forward with trust. He also shared behind-the-scenes insights about Vaaranam Aayiram. Initially, the director approached Nana Patekar and Mohanlal to play the father’s role in the film, but both declined. Eventually, Suriya took on the challenge of portraying both the father and son, a move Gautham deeply admired. “He had the guts to do it,” Gautham noted, praising the actor’s bold decision.
Despite the setbacks and challenges, Dhruva Natchathiram remains one of the most anticipated films, with fans eagerly waiting for its release.
