Superstar Rajinikanth is currently busy with two high-profile projects — Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Coolie and Jailer 2 with Nelson Dilipkumar. Both films are progressing at different stages. While Coolie has completed shooting and is now in post-production, eyeing a grand August 14th worldwide release, Jailer 2 is still in production, with Rajinikanth actively participating in the shoot.

Meanwhile, discussions have already begun regarding Rajinikanth’s next project after these two. Industry insiders reveal that the superstar is considering collaborations with three distinct directors, each bringing their own unique storytelling sensibilities.

One strong contender is Nithilan Saminathan, who made waves with the critically acclaimed Maharaja, starring Vijay Sethupathi. Nithilan’s gripping narrative style and impactful execution have reportedly caught Rajinikanth’s attention. If this collaboration materializes, Red Giant Movies is expected to bankroll the project.

Another filmmaker in the mix is Vivek Athreya, known for his work with Nani in films like Ante Sundaraniki. Although the film had a modest box office run in Telugu, it found significant appreciation on OTT platforms and was well-received in Tamil Nadu. Athreya is said to have pitched a character-driven, emotional script that complements the superstar’s current preferences. This project could be backed by Mythri Movie Makers.

The third name under consideration is H. Vinoth, acclaimed for directing Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru (dubbed Khakee in Telugu) featuring Karthi. Vinoth is known for his intense, realistic thrillers and is currently directing Jana Nayagan with Thalapathy Vijay.

Rajinikanth is in no hurry to finalize his next move. With two big films already on his plate, he is expected to take a decision based on the strength of the scripts and his availability. A formal announcement on his next project is likely to come by early 2026, once his current commitments are wrapped up.
